Mr. Lewis "Poppy" Stubbs Jr. departed this life on March 18, 2023, in Evansville. Lewis was born January 2,1934, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force making a career in the Strategic Air Command. He was stationed in Asia during the Korean War and was sent to Florida during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Lewis then embarked on his second career spending 20 years in the employ of Richmond Tank Car Company, Angleton, Texas. Upon relocating to Perry County, Poppy volunteered at Myers Grade School serving five years as the crossing guard. He further served as a reservist for the Cannelton Police Department. While stationed in Fairbanks, Arkansas, Lewis joined the Masonic Order and wore his ring with pride. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Poppy never met a stranger and always had a joke at the ready. He will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. Lewis is survived by his daughters Linda Sears, Lexington, KY; Connie Reed, Cannelton, IN; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Cynthia Lanier. Lewis will be interred along with his wife Cynthia at Camp Nelson Military Cemetery in Jessamine County, Kentucky. There will be no public service in accordance with his wishes. Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
