Tell City, Indiana - Leonna Adkins, 53, passed away on August 1, 2021, at her home. She was born in Evansville on August 3, 1967, daughter of Irving and Susan (Welty) Rueger who survive her. In her teen years, her interest in art resulted in many beautiful paintings and drawings. Leonna was a 1985 graduate of Perry Central High School and later graduated from Morehead (KY) State University in 1987, where she earned a veterinary tech degree. She dearly loved her animals, including her two horses. She married Jim Adkins on August 22, 1999. Together they started Adkins Lawn Service, where they mowed lawns and cemeteries and did custodial jobs, including St. Paul Catholic Church and Tell City Public Library. Leonna was devout in her Christian faith. She had been to Tunisia, Africa, on a mission trip and volunteered at Community Christian Church and had served as a Christian Ed teacher. Survivors include her beloved husband, Jim Adkins; parents, Irv and Susan Rueger, Leopold; sisters, Leslie Helmig (Shanon), Clarksville, Tennessee and Lydia Shoaf (Derek) of Arvada, Colorado; aunts and uncles, Floyd Rueger, John Welty (Joanne), Dick Welty and Linda LaMere; cousins, Meredith, James, Rachel, Scott, Ryan, Lisa and Kyle; nephews, Jake, Wyatt, Weston and Soloman and nieces, Jordan and Stella. Preceding her in death was an uncle, Reynold Rueger and cousin, Aaron Rueger. A Celebration of Leonna's Life will be held at 3:00 PM CDT on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Community Christian Church. Pastor Errol Wright will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Christian Church.
