Leona R. (Mogan) Staples, 90, passed away April 11, 2018 at Oakwood Health Campus. She was born in Derby, Indiana on March 25, 1928, daughter of the late Earle and Nellie (Gruver) Mogan. Leona was a 1946 graduate of Cannelton High School. She was united in marriage on July 29, 1950 to Don Staples, who preceded her in death in 2015. Leona had worked at General Electric for many years and retired from Dr. Bosler's Optometry in the late 1980's. Leona was a member of Tell City First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Perry County Hospital Auxiliary. A lifelong resident of Perry County, she was intrigued with the Ohio River and loved to take drives through the countryside of Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky. Leona enjoyed preserving the bounty of Don's garden, her grandchildren, traveling, music and embroidery. Surviving are her children, Diane Steinsberger (Harry), Knoxville, Tenessee, Rick Staples (Becky), Mason, Ohio and Larry Staples (Sheila), Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Gina Burch (Paul), Jeff Steinsberger (Nicole), Chad, Sam and Koby Staples, Ashley Carter (David) and Amanda Staples ; great-grandchildren, Emma Jo and Kate Anne Steinsberger and Garrett and Ada Burch. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Don Staples; great-granddaughter, Lilah Marie Burch; and a brother, Robert Mogan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CST Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial will follow in Lewisport Cemetery in Lewisport, Kentucky. Sheila Rearden will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or Tell City First United Methodist Church.
