Schnellville, Indiana - Larry F. Knust, 78, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was born October 27, 1935, in Schnellville, son of the late Oscar Knust and Marie (Haas) Knust Sternberg. Larry was also preceded in death by his step-father John Sternberg. A 1953 graduate of Jasper High School, he was united in marriage August 25, 1956, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Tell City to Rita E. Peter who survives him. He was a life-long farmer and was also employed at Schnellville Mill/True Value, retiring as manager in 2001, after 55 years of service. A lifetime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Schnellville, he was a member of the choir for over 60 years. Larry was also a member of Schnellville Fire Department, serving as Director for many years, Schnellville Conservation Club and Schnellville Community Club, St. Anthony Community Center, and a past board member of Dubois Water Utilities, and recipient of the Outstanding Farmer Award presented by American Forage and Grassland Council in 1972. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rita Knust; sons, David J. Knust (Deb), Richardson, Texas, Daniel L. Knust (Angie), Newburgh, Gregory A. Knust (Kathy), Schnellville; daughters, Rose M. Nealy (Aaron), Depauw and Renae A. Verkamp (Ryan), Schnellville; brother, Ernie Knust (Alene), Belleville, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters and brothers in-law, Jim Peter (Ruth), Mary Etienne (Ivo), Helen Spencer, Bob Peter, Betty Hartz (Calvin), Charles A. Peter and Jane Huber (Tom) and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM EST on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Father Michael Madden will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel and from 9:00 until 10:00 AM Friday at church. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church or Schnellville Fire Department. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, will be handling the arrangements.
