Cannelton, Indiana - Kazuko "Cookie" Ballow, 83, formerly of Cannelton, passed away February 3, 2017, at Carlinville Hospital in Carlinville, Illinois. She was born in Tokyo, Japan on February 18, 1933. On March 18, 1952, at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Kazuko Moriyama was united in marriage to Jearl Ballow, after meeting him in a cafe' during his Korean War era deployment. A military wife, "Cookie" and Jearl traveled all over the world, with Cookie being especially fond of his assignments to Okinawa. She enjoyed bowling and crocheting. Currently living in Springfield, IL, Cookie called Cannelton her home town, residing there in 1953-1955 and again from 1966-1967. Surviving are her husband, Jearl Ballow of Springfield, Illinois; a sister, Miya Makita of Yokohama, Japan; and a brother, Nobu Moriyama of Tokyo, Japan. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017, from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the visitation.
