Cannelton, Indiana Karen Sue Smiley, 69, passed away at her home on January 25, 2022. She was born in Tell City on August 4, 1952 to Alton, Jr. and Mary (Klueh) Bolin. Karen was a 1970 graduate of Perry Central High School and earned an Associate Degree in Business from the University of Evansville. She was a teacher's aide and helped with special needs children at William Tell Elementary and retired from ResCare. Early in her career, she worked as an EMT for Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas, was a volunteer firefighter and drove a school bus for the local schools while she lived in Columbus. Karen loved to attend church, sing, shop, garden, tend to her house plants and pamper her beagle, Sammy. Her grandchildren were most dear to her. She enjoyed helping them with their homework and baking with them. Surviving are her children, Michelle Crowe (Brian), Evansville, Gilbert Eugene Smiley, II, Cannelton and Kathryn Clark (Shawn), Tell City; step children, Elizabeth James, Tony Roberts, Tim and Terry Smiley; grandchildren, Amya Smiley, Aiden and Alivia Clark, Brent and Brandon Crowe, Jenny Matlock, Jessie Watkins, Katelynn, Kenny, Bryce and Lilly Smiley, Josh Roberts, Jason, Elliot and Hannah Smiley and several great grandchildren; sisters, Marcia Wirthwein, Tell City, Judy Beumel (Alex), Derby and Becky Hinton, Tell City. Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Gerald Smiley; second husband, James Montgomery; brothers, Mark Bolin and Bryant Bolin and brother-in-law, Mike Wirthwein. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Monday, January 31, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Chrysostom Church Cemetery in New Boston. Visitation will be on Sunday from Noon-5:00 PM and Monday from 8:30-9:30AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Huber Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
