Tell City, Indiana - Jon M. Deer, 67, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on August 10, 1942. His parents were the late Walter and Virginia Ruth (Hollingsworth) Deer. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Judith Beck. In 1961, Jon graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in Evansville and from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He married Elaine Ludwig on August 4, 1962. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2008. Jon retired from law enforcement in 2002 after 37 years of service. He had been an Indiana State Trooper and served Perry County as sheriff. A member of Community Christian Church, Jon enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening in his spare time. Surviving him are his daughters, Amy Puskas and Catherine Burst and his son, Jon Deer II, grandchildren, Erin Puskas, Jack and Kate Deer and Ashley Burst and a brother, David Deer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Widow's Barrel Food Pantry.
