John Lamkin

St. Croix, Indiana John E. Lamkin, 91, passed away August 12, 2018 at his home. He was born in Perry County, Indiana on January 27, 1927 to the late Floyd and Clara (Skrynecke) Lamkin. Also preceding him in death was a brother Martin Lamkin, a sister, Hazel Limes and a nephew, Robert Lamkin. John was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and American Legion Post #213. John had owned and operated the Bristow Tavern and later bought John's Tavern in St. Croix for nearly 20 years. He retired from Indiana Department of Transportation. He loved to cook and garden, trade tractors and play euchre with his buddies at the St. Meinrad American Legion. John was proud to drive his convertibles in parades, owning several different styles. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to John's neighbors and friends, Patrick and Karin Gibson and their family, for allowing John to stay in his home in recent years as they became his primary caregivers as his health deteriorated and a heartwarming thank you to the visiting nurses of ViaQuest. Surviving are nephews, Kim Limes and Arthur Lamkin; nieces, Ann Hay, Michele Dolly and Judie Wilson; two great nephews; three great nieces; and two great-great nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM CST on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #366. Rev. Brian Esarey will officiate. Visitation will Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:15 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to your local American Legion.
