John Hemmings

Tell City, Indiana - John D. Hemmings, 73, passed away on January 16, 2023, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care in Jasper. He was born in Rockport on June 29, 1949. He was the son of Raymond and Reva (Harter) Hemmings. John owned and operated a sawmill and loved visiting with friends and family, always sharing a joke or pulling pranks on them. To him, time was always well spent if John was eating at Schwartz Family Restaurant, where owners and employees were like family to him. Surviving are his sons, Jason D. Hemmings and John David Hemmings and siblings, Loretta Lee, Rayma Lee, Linda Smith, Jill Bowman, Lorraine Brown, Mike Hemmings, Teletha Ambrose, Debbie Wangler, Rodney Hemmings and Redina Whistle. John's parents preceded him in death along with his siblings, Orvilla Houston and Ray, James, Benny, David and Clayton Hemmings. Friends and family who would like to visit and share stories about John can do so on Friday evening from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial will be in Underhill Cemetery near St. Croix. Huber Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Hemmings. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Underhill Cemetery.
