John Brunner

Tell City, Indiana John R. Brunner Sr., 72, passed away on February 5, 2021 at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Perry County on September 16, 1948, son of John M. Brunner and Virginia E. (Bowers) Lawalin and stepfather, Edward Lawalin Sr. who preceded him in death. John was a 1967 graduate of Tell City High School and a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War era. He was a jet aircraft engine mechanic. John was united in marriage on September 29th, 1989 to Jenny L. Simpson. At age 62, he retired from Aleris after 30 years. Since his retirement, he was a part-time employee of the Perry County News for nearly 10 years. He was a member of the Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142, having most recently served as the Post's Finance Officer. He was also a member of Tell City United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge #1424. John enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and the Indiana Hoosiers. He loved playing euchre, jeeping and camping. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. Surviving is his wife of 31 years, Jenny L. Brunner, daughters Sunshine and Eva Brunner of Tell City; sons John Jr. (Tammi) Brunner of French Lick, Jason (Kelly) Wagner of Owensboro, Jeremy Wagner and Andy Brunner of Tell City; grandchildren, Travis (Ashley), Zach, Lyndy, Lucy, Bo, Nolan, Kamden, Madison, Katie and Kelsey; sisters, Delores Wright of Bristow, Carolyn Goffinet of Cannelton and Patricia Lawalin of Tell City and brothers Rick, Terry, Edward Jr., and Allan Lawalin all of Tell City. Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter Autumn James and a grandson Jacob Wagner. Visitation will be Monday, February 8, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 PM and Tuesday 9:00 AM-12:30 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Funeral services will be private with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, with military rites. Pastor Samuel Padgett will officiate. While visiting the funeral home a mask is to be worn and social distancing is appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacob Wagner Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Tell City High School or Cannelton American Legion Post #142.
