Tell City, Indiana - Joe Eddy ""Jocko"" Leisner, 80, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011, at his home. He was born in Tell City on January 3, 1931, son of the late George H. Leisner and Esther (Hertzing) Leisner Varner. Also preceding him in death were his son, Britt J. Leisner. Jocko married Mary Helen Snyder on September 26, 1956, in Tell City. A U.S. Army Air Corp and Marine Corp. veteran, he was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and American Legion Post #213. Jocko retired in 1993 as a supervisor from the former National Southwire Aluminum, in Hawesville, Kentucky, where he had been employed for 23 years. He also had worked for Kaiser Engineering. He enjoyed working at the OAKS Senior Citizens Center, playing cards, traveling, watching football, camping, yard work and spending time with his family. Surviving him are his wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Leisner; daughter, Lesa Ranger, Jasper; grandsons, Jeremy Hempfling, his wife Erin and their daughter, Gillian, Chrisney, and Dylan Hempfling, Evanston; his aunt, Pearl Marie Fruehwald, Tell City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 8, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery where there will be military rites. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie, OSB, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM on Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made St. Paul Catholic Church or Salvation Army.
