Tell City, Indiana
James C. “Jim” Miller, 92, passed away on May 5, 2024 at his home.
He was born in Tell City on April 18, 1932, son of William “Buck” and Lillian (Park) Miller.
Jim was united in marriage on April 14, 1995 to Ginger Burns, who survives him.
He worked in maintenance and retired from General Electric in 1997 after 43 years. Jim refereed basketball and intramural leagues for more than 35 years. A skilled baseball player , Jim was inducted in the Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame, which is near completion in Evansville.
Jim was fondly known in Tell City as “Popcorn Man” as he was famous, even having his own business cards to prove it, for the popcorn that he made for anyone that asked for it. Jim popped more than 600 pounds of popcorn every year that he purchased annually from Amish Popcorn Company in Berne, Indiana. He and Taz, his four-legged sidekick, were usually side by side distributing popcorn treats.
He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, sewing and watching old movies.
Jim and his family were blessed with his Heart-to-Heart Hospice team; Sara, Earla, Stephanie, Jennifer and Chaplain Mike; his amazing caregiver, Ashley and Alex, for being such a caring doctor and friend.
Surviving is his wife, Ginger Burns Miller; sons, Brad Miller and Greg Miller (Donna Dawson and her daughter, Maggie) and grandchildren, Jeff Miller, Trey Miller, Angel Miller and Kierra Miller.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Arthur Miller (during the Korean War) and sisters, Nell Miller, Madeline Bryant, Mary Quante and Yula Highsmith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Chaplain Mike Beatty will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at Huber Funeral Home.
Jim’s family would like recognize his dear family and friends that will serve the honor as pallbearers: Jeff Miller, Trey Miller, Rodney Hupp, Charlie Baumeister, Mike Moskos and Alex, Dela Llana, MD. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Darren Johnson, Jody Fortwendel and Michael Kellems.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart-to-Heart Hospice or River’s Edge Animal Shelter.
