Cannelton, Indiana Jessie R. Huff, 82, of Cannelton, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Perry County Memorial Hospital. Jessie was born in Flora, Illinois on June 12, 1929, son of the late William McKinley Huff and Maude Ellen Miley Huff. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Jo, in infancy, a sister, Frances Freeman and a brother, J.W. Huff. Jessie was married on Ocotber 23, 1948 in Cannelton to the former Dorothy Young. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired as a welder from Maxon Marine Industries. Jessie was an ordained deacon at Deer Creek Baptist Church. He was a 50 year member of the Tell City Masonic Lodge #623 F.&A.M. and the Boilermakers. Jessie had a friendly smile and never met a stranger. He loved flowers and yard work, woodworking and followed his grandchildren in their sports. He enjoyed being with his family, especially at the dinner table. Jessie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy, two daughters, Cheryl Stowe (George), Tell City, Karen Gogel (Joe), Tell City, three sisters, Julia Barker, Tell City, Flora Jean Huff, Tell City, Shirley Smith, Hudson, Florida and two half- brothers, Billy Joe and Norman Huff. There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Josh Harris (Dana), their children, Wyatt and Scarlett, Joey Gogel (Kristi), their children, Sydnee and Aiden, Nick Harris (Kristen) and Jessica White (Clint), their son, Danny Joe. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Deer Creek Baptist Church with burial in New Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton, where the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2939 will conduct memorial graveside services. Rev. Elmer Shelby and grandson, Josh Harris will officiate at the funeral. Visitation is from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel and from 9:00 - 10:00 AM Friday at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Deer Creek Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
