I have fought the good fight , I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness,
Which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
Will award to me on that day.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
Tell City, Indiana –
Jermie L. Farmer, 71, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 27, 1953, in Old Hickory, Tennessee, the son of Jermie and Helen (Keesee) Farmer.
He graduated from Cannelton High School and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Jermie was a sanitarian/environmentalist for 34 years before retiring from Perry County Health Department.
Jermie was a 55-year member of the Cannelton Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, song leader, adult Sunday School teacher and Wednesday Bible Study teacher. He was also actively involved at River Crossing Church and helped with their weekly church services at Brickyard Health.
He was a well-known vocalist in the area singing and playing guitar, alongside his family. He and his wife, Cheryl, sang at many local weddings and funerals. Jermie always considered it a privilege to be asked to share his ministry of music at other churches besides his own. He wrote several songs and recorded them, with his family, “The Farmer Family” at Faith Music Missions.
Jermie was often seen walking at Eagle’s Bluff Park and also enjoyed gardening, cooking, growing flowers, landscaping, mountain hiking, playing and watching sports (especially U.K. basketball) and spoiling his family with love and fond memories.
His greatest passion in this life was his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jermie’s life was well lived, and he was a good example of what it means to serve the Lord.
Jermie’s wife of 43 years, Cheryl (Shephard) survives him along with sons, Jordan Farmer and Micah Farmer (Seleena); grandchildren, Levi and Selah, to whom he was a devoted “Pop Pop”, and his father-in-law, Maurice Shephard.
Besides his parents, Jermie was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Coyle and his mother-in-law, Gloria (Ramsey) Shephard.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Freewill Baptist Church in Cannelton, with burial to follow in New Cliff Cemetery. Visitation will be at Freewill Baptist Church from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday. Jermie’s childhood and longtime friend, Brother Steve Epley, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cannelton Freewill Baptist Church or Eagle’s Bluff Park and Overlook.
