Tell City, Indiana "I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the earth gives me daily and I must return the gift." -Robin Wall Kimmerer It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jema Joann Watts at the age of 58 on April 3, 2023. Jema was surrounded by her beloved family and made her transition peacefully. She is now reunited with her father and mother, Morris and Betty (Goffinet) Scheler, her sister, Pamela Scheler and her dear grandmother, Edna. Jema is survived by her husband of 39 years, Michael Watts, daughter Laura Sullivan (Timothy), her sons Evan (Laura) and Matthew, as well as her precious grandchildren, Nolan Sullivan and Maggie and Emma Watts, and sisters, Beth Flamion (Jerry) and Shelley Wheatley. Jema was born and raised in Perry County and was a 1983 graduate of Perry Central High School. She began her career at Saint Meinrad's Abbey Press before joining her father-in-law as a Business Coordinator at Catholic Church School Market where she worked alongside him for over 30 years. She then opened her own business, The Badge Shack, with her husband Mike, where she enjoyed serving customers around the world. Jema was a devoted advocate for those whose voices couldn't be heard and a passionate supporter of women's rights. Jema will undoubtedly be remembered for the grace and kindness that she showed everyone. She never met a stranger, just a new friend. There was nothing she valued more than the time she spent with her loving family. She loved watching her kids excel in sports and never missed one of their events. You could always find her smiling and cheering them on in the stands. One of the proudest moments were those as being "Mamaw" to her three grandbabies. Jema loved nature deeply. The bright shine of summer, the brilliant colors of fall, the deep stillness of winter and the promise of spring. It was a gift. All of it. To know her, was to love her. There will be a celebration of Jema's life at a later date. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel is assisting the family at this time. Condolences and memories may be left for her family at morrisfamilyservices.com. Huber Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Jema. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beagle Freedom Project or any organization that supports women's rights.
