Jearl Ballow

Jearl "Buck" Ballow, 89, passed away on September 3, at his home in Springfield, Illinois. He was born in Cannelton, Indiana on May 15, 1932, son of the late Iva (Lampton) and William F. Ballow, Sr. Jearl was a member of Douglas MacArthur's GHQ staff in Tokyo, Japan from 1950-1953. After completing high school, he then returned to the Army in 1955, eventually becoming a Warrant Officer and CID agent in the mid-1960s. Jearl was an agent on the floor of the 1968 Democratic Convention, then was transferred to Okinawa, spending several years there fighting the island's. He served 28 years in the military and he received a Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and an Army Commendation Medal. He retired after 18 years with the Illinois State Police in 1998, where he served as a civilian supervisor in the Intelligence Bureau of the ISP. Jearl was a member of the V.F.W. Post#15014, Korean War Veterans Association, was an honorary member of the GHQ, First Raider Company-Korean War Project, Retired State Police of Illinois and the Criminal Investigation Division Association. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including a great nephew, Michael Ballow, of Springfield, IL, and wife Jeana who cared for him. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Kazuko "Cookie" (Moriyama) Ballow; brothers, William and James Ballow and a sister, Mary Gudorf. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time.
