Cannelton, Indiana –
Jean R. Zellers, 95, passed away on October 8, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville.
A native of Millstone, Jean was the daughter of James “Henry” and Dorothy M. (Dowell) Ramsey. She was a 1947 graduate of Cannelton High School. Jean was united in marriage to William R. “Bill” Zellers on April 9, 1950.
Jean and her husband, Bill, owned and operated Zellers Construction where she was the office manager. Later, she worked for ten years at the Perry County Health Department where she was the Registrar. She was a member of Tell City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #272.
From a young age, Jean learned to sew and make her own clothes. Later in life, she kept her reputation for being a very particular seamstress. She loved music, playing the piano at her church for several years and she also played the guitar. Jean was an avid card player, playing in three bridge clubs and some intense hands of euchre with her brother and sister-in-law on a weekly basis.
Some of her most fond memories were being with her family, whether it be cooking dinner at their cabin, a day on the river on their houseboat or just conversations with her grandchildren. Jean and Bill, who died on August 27th of this year, always looked forward to spending the winter months at their home in Fort Myers, Florida and were able to do so for thirty-two years.
Jean is survived by her children, Linda Anderson and Greg Zellers (Carolyn); grandchildren, Matthew Anderson, Michelle Anderson, Geoffrey Zellers (Audrey), Crystal Rasmussen (Jake), Sarah Niederer (Shane), Ashley Robinson (Rhett) and Will Zellers (Hannah); great grandchildren, Grant, Madelyn, Olivia and Sydney Zellers, Tyler Rasmussen, Bo, Bailey and Nash Niederer, Brooklyn and Kallie Robison and Penny Zellers; sister-in-law, Dee Ramsey and brother-in-law, Maurice Shephard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Jerry Ramsey (in infancy), David “Tinker” Ramsey, Gloria Shephard, Kenneth Ramsey, Guy Neil Ramsey, Jimmy Ramsey and Henriella Bynon and sisters-in-law, Rachel, Cherie and Laverne Ramsey.
Jean’s family is especially appreciative of the care and friendship she received from her caregiver, Millie Alvey.
