Cannelton, Indiana Jan M. James, 64, passed away January 8, 2020 at her home. She was born in Tell City, Indiana on March 12, 1955 to the late Cecil Alvey and Dorothy (Shadwick) Alvey Pekinpaugh. Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Jill James and step father, Shirley "Pek" Pekinpaugh. Jan was a 1973 graduate of Tell City High School. She was united in marriage to Norman James on December 17, 1983. Jan had worked for the U.S. Postal Service in both Cannelton and Tell City for over 18 years. She enjoyed crafts, working in her garden, Cannelton and IU basketball, her dogs, Baxter, Conner and Wilfred and spoiling her grandson, Camden. Jan loved helping people, often putting others before herself whenever possible. She had a pleasant and warm personality that instantly put you at ease. Although she will be greatly missed, anyone who knew Jan knows that she is now happy and at peace, being reunited with her daughter, Jill. Surviving is her husband of 36 years, Norman James, Cannelton; her son, Brandon James, Evansville; grandson, Camden James, Evansville; a sister, Jolane Biever (Bill), Roxboro, NC and a brother, Jim Alvey, Cannelton. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM CST Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Paul Alvey will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for her grandson, Camden. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
