Cannelton, Indiana - James Emory Yaggi, Jr., lived a full life, setting an example to all by his love of family, community, country and faith. He was surrounded by his beloved family when he passed away, at his home, at the age of 92. Emory graduated from Cannelton High School in 1950 and married Beatrice A. "Tanny" Claycomb before he left to serve his country, in the United States Army, in the early 1950's. Emory was a 70-year member of Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142, where he held many offices and served on its funeral detail. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939, Loyal Order of Moose and First United Methodist Church. In 1987, Emory retired as manager of Kroger where he had worked since high school. After retirement from Kroger, he and his wife owned and operated Yaggi's Bar & Grill for several years, offering him the ability to visit and be around people. Customers and friends alike adored him and his willingness to make Cannelton a better place to live and enjoyable for all. He served many years, in different decades, on the Cannelton City Council. In 1977, Emory pursued an interest to develop housing for the elderly and/or disabled. His vision came to fruition in 1980 when Cando had its open house, offering apartment style living to over twenty-five people. Emory was often seen being generous with the residents, whether dropping off fresh produce, calendars or just stopping by to visit. In 2011, Cando completed a total remodel with Emory overseeing the project where he had served as president of the board of directors since its origination until his death. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and shared the love of all kinds of sports, especially horse racing, basketball, baseball and football, with his family, often every evening with his son, John. The Indiana Hoosiers, St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds were among his favorites….and the Bulldogs of Cannelton. Emory's personality and ability to bring a smile to the faces of his family and friends were one of his many positive traits. His willingness to serve others, whether it be as a city councilman, volunteering at the Cannorama , catering meals for veterans or driving around the county helping Patty put signs out; all providing lasting memories of a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. Emory will be fondly remembered as a man of integrity, unsurpassable work ethic and dedication and love for his family and community. Surviving him are his children, John Yaggi (Cindy) and Patricia A. "Patty" Seibert (Steve); grandchildren, Megan Evans (Chris), Paige Ransom (Jarrett), Ashton Abraham (Bryan), Ryan Zuelly (Ashley) and Dayne Seibert (Emily) and great grandchildren, Teagan, Theia, Thessaly, Bensen, Bexley, Caslin, Ember and Hazel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory James and Nora Marie (Barker) Yaggi; his wife; sisters Marie Johnson and Patricia Ann "Patsy" Yaggi and brothers, Bill, Forrest, Ralph and Maurice Yaggi.
