Tell City, Indiana - James V. "Jim" Peter, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1928, son of the late Edward J. and Mary Elsie (Holman) Peter. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Bob Peter and a sister, Rita Knust. A 1946 graduate of Tell City High School, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Korea. Jim married Ruth Kellems on December 31, 1952 at St. Mark Catholic Church. In 1988, Jim retired as an electrician from General Electric where he had worked for over 40 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Southern Indiana Power for eighteen years, fifteen of them as board president. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #213, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939 and Knights of Columbus #1172. He enjoyed watching his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in their sporting activities, family cookouts and gatherings, especially cooking turtle soup for over 60 years. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth Peter; sons, Jim Peter (Paula), Kent Peter (Nina) and Philip "P.J." Peter (Jill), all of Jasper; grandchildren, Josh Peter (Niki), Jessica Peter, Andy Peter (Lisa), Kyle Peter (Ashley), Ross Peter and Victor Peter and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Etienne, Helen Spencer and Betty Hartz, of Tell City, Jane Huber (Tom), Cannelton and a brother, Charles A. Peter, Tell City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Monday, May 15, 2017, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 5377 Acorn Road, Tell City, with burial in the church cemetery where there will be military rites. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00 until 6:00 PM and from 8:00 until 9:15 AM on Monday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City. There will be a K of C Memorial Service at 6:00 PM on Sunday . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church, Heart to Heart Hospice or University of Iowa Foundation.
