Jackie Curd

November 20, 1935 — July 10, 2024

Mount Pleasant, Indiana –

Jacquelyn Louise Curd, "Jackie" and "Grandma" to her family and friends, passed on July10, 2024 at the age of 88.

Jackie was born on November 20, 1935, at St. Edwards Hospital in New Albany to Edward L. and Louise (Ulrich) Schutte.

She attended grade school at St. Mary's School and graduated from New Albany High School. After her mom's passing, Jackie helped raise her young sister Marijo. Jackie’s faith and her church, St. Anthony Catholic Church in Clarksville, Indiana, were very important to her and where she raised her four children in the Catholic faith. She was a den mother and worked concessions for the various sports that her children participated in. Jackie taught CCD at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold where she more recently attended, and she worked with the reading program and Perry County schools.

Jackie was quite a gardener and loved tending to her large variety of flowers. She and her husband Bob enjoyed traveling and the countryside, so much so that they purchased a place in the country which became their new home away from home. Jackie was a great cook, often making many large meals for holidays and family gatherings. She loved playing bunco and having lunch with her friends.

As much as she loved her children, her heart was filled with joy and happiness for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren spent many weekends with her, enjoying fishing, hunting, hiking, hayrides, caring for baby rabbits and birds and so much more. She was a testament of being a wonderful grandma was, because her grandchildren, now adults, continued to come back and stay with her, always looking forward to spending time with her and truly enjoying her company. She loved spending time on the front porch with them, and her love for good conversations led to lively discussions about books they’ve read, movies and tv they had watched, the next puzzle they might work, the flowers in her garden, the birds they would see and much more. She loved animals and she always had dogs until just recently. However, all the grandkids had dogs, so she could continue her enjoyment of them during her grandchildren’s visits. Recently, one of her grandsons and sons had gotten her two parakeets, with her affectionately naming them Sugar and Spice. She talked often of what they were doing and were up to. She attended many events with her grandchildren, including receptions and weddings, always looking forward to spending time with them.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert N. Curd; a daughter Terry Curd; sons, Robert H. Curd (Missy), James Michael Curd (Sue) and Steve E. Curd (Rhonda Walker); grandchildren, Joe Berger (Brandi), Emily Curd, James Casey Curd (Candice) and James Robert Curd (Sarah); sister, Marijo Rigsby (Jak) and many nieces and their families for whom she adored.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Edward L and Louise (Ulrich) Schutte and a sister, Doris Ann (Schutte) Haendiges (Frank).

Jackie was a special wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother to be and friend to many. Her kindness, love, faith and that spark of sassiness has touched so many, and she leaves a void that cannot be filled. We love her and miss her already. GOD gained a beautiful soul; one we are very blessed and thankful for having her in our lives.
