J. Rutherford

Cannelton, Indiana J. Stephen Rutherford, 70, passed away Saturday January 1, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion, Indiana. Stephen was born February 7, 1934 in Cannelton the son of the late Michael J. and Frances (Busam) Rutherford. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Harold Rutherford. He attended St. Michael Elementary School, studied his junior year at St. Meinrad Archabbey, and graduated from Cannelton High School in 1952. He completed three years of college education. Prior to beginning military service in 1956, he worked at William Tell Woodcrafters in Tell City and retired from the United States Army in 1964. An accomplished musician, he played the piano, trombone, and was fluent in Latin and Spanish. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Cannelton. He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Rutherford of Cannelton, Indiana and Carolyn Meunier of Reno, Nevada. Two brothers, Michael Rutherford of Tell City, Indiana and Charles Rutherford of Newburgh, Indiana. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM EST Tuesday January 4, 2005 at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery where Harry G. Myers American Legion Post # 142 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2939 will conduct military graveside rites. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie OSB will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home-Cannelton Chapel where there will be a prayer service at 6:00 PM Monday.
