Irene Hitch

Tell City, Indiana - Irene B. Hitch, 90, formerly of Thorntown, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 08, 2010, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. Irene was born in St. Johns, Michigan, on March 29, 1920, daughter of the late Charles C. and Chloe (Heister) Baumgartner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hitch in 2005. A registered nurse, Irene and her husband, William, were co-owners, with Bill and Helen Russell, of Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, a family owned funeral home in Thorntown, Indiana. Irene was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, PEO and the United Methodist Church, Thorntown, Indiana. She enjoyed golf, bowling, music, art and volunteer work. Irene is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Carney and her husband, David of Tell City, a son, Charles Hitch and his wife, Pat of Stilesville, Indiana, a sister, Donna Rae Gaunt, Largo, Florida, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, Thorntown, Indiana with burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thorntown United Methodist Church or the Thorntown Public Library. Envelopes will be available at Huber Funeral Home, who is handling local arrangements.
