Cannelton, Indiana - Ida Mae Hafele, 84, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Owensboro Health, in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was born in Cannelton on September 4, 1928. Her parents were the late William T. and Lorene (Doughty) Sweeney. Ida Mae was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the church's Women's Guild. She was an avid card player and loved playing bridge. She especially was thankful for the time she got to spend with her children and grandchildren. For over 50 years, Ida Mae owned and operated Ida Mae's Beauty Shop. She was very devoted to her customers who were more like dear friends and family to her. Surviving are her daughters, Marlene Wint (Tom), New Albany and Nannette Schelling (Steve), Crestwood, Kentucky; son, Tim Hafele (Roberta), Santa Claus; grandchildren, Nathan Wint (Maedra), Eric Wint (Jo), Jessica Biven (Josh), Emily Hafele, Philip Hafele (Melissa), Matthew Schelling, Christopher Schelling and Megan Schelling; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Kaye Rexroat (Ron), Indianapolis and Jo Long, Brownwood, Texas and a brother, Charles "Kelly" Sweeney (Donna), Tell City; sister-in-law, Betty "Betsy" Sweeney, Cannelton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Hafele, a son, Jeff Hafele, a sister, Marcella Yaggi and a brother, Bob Sweeney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 PM CST on Friday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday. Rev. Mike Thompson will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
