Herman Epple

November 18, 1924 — June 30, 2015

Tell City, Indiana Herman S. Epple, 90, passed away June 30, 2015 at Oakwood Health Campus. He was born in Perry County November 18, 1924, son of the late Jacob and Alta (McKim) Epple. Also preceding him in death were his son, Gregory Epple, a grandson, Nicholas Philipps, sisters, Flora Smith, Opal Wheeler, and Bess Hall, and his brother, Vernard Epple. A graduate of Bristow High school, Herman was united in marriage to Virginia Moorehead, November 24, 1951 at Tell City Church of Christ. He remained a lifelong member of the Tell City Church of Christ, where he served as deacon. Herman loved his work as a farmer in Huffman. He especially loved sharing the history of the local covered bridge, and was instrumental in forming the Friends of the Huffman Covered Bridge. He had also been employed at Bristow Milling Company. Herman enjoyed entertaining his family and friends by singing and playing his harmonica. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Epple; son, Steven Epple (Judy), Mill Creek, WA; daughters, Katie Heeke (Jim), Troy, IN and Jancy Lawalin (Duane), Tell City, IN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Epple, Troy, IN; grandchildren, Jamie Logel (Chris), Logan Heeke (Elizabeth), Laura Beth Philipps (Derrick), Jacob Lawalin (Kayla), Brooke Lawalin, Debbie Simmons (Brad), Michelle Brown (Mark) and Mike Garwood; great grandchildren, Calib, Lleyton and Legend Logel; Garrett, Abigail and Samuel Heeke; Adeline and Ike Philipps, Bexley Lawalin, Lizzie Simmons and Maia Brown. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM Tell City Church of Christ with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at the church. Brothers Billy Lain and David Johnson will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Kingsfield Children's Home in Sellersburg, IN or Woodland Bible Camp, Linton, IN.
