Tell City, Indiana Helen A. Spencer, 89, passed away on April 18, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Tell City, Indiana on September 5, 1931 to Edward J. and Mary Elsie (Holman) Peter. Helen was a 1949 graduate of Tell City High School, where she played saxophone in band, and was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, taking drives, walking and playing cards. She loved nature and the changing of each season, especially spring blossoms and fall leaves. Helen was a very kind and gentle woman. Family meant everything to her; she dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and many friends. Surviving are her children, Cathy Hagedorn (Tom), Tell City, Jon Spencer (June), Leopold, Carol Sabelhaus and Jane James, Tell City, Paul "Digger" Spencer (Norma), Derby, Joe Spencer and Sara Belcher (Jerry), Tell City; a brother, Charles A. Peter, Tell City; sisters, Betty Hartz, Tell City and Jane Huber (Tom), Cannelton; sister-in-law, Ruth Peter, Ireland; grandchildren, Danny Hagedorn (Erica), Laura Ousley (Scott), Dane Sabelhaus (Chelsea), Ashley Spencer (Harold White), Kaycie Sabelhaus-Thompson (Ian) and Rayleigh Spencer; step grandchildren, Kelli Hubert (Denny), Tara Edwards, Chris Briggeman (Sarah), Kaitlyn Cross (Justin), Brad Belcher and Courtney White and great grandchildren, Evan, Luke and Elizabeth Hagedorn, Sydney, Hannah and Ella Ousley, Luke and Dylan Hubert, Wyatt and Ethan Edwards, Max and Molly Briggeman, Annabelle and Charlotte Sabelhaus, Vivian Sabelhaus, Isabella and Hazel Thompson, Ender White, Bentley and Addison Henton. Preceding her in death were her parents; grandson, Jon David Spencer; step great granddaughter, Kristin White; brothers, Jim Peter and Bob Peter; sisters, Mary Etienne and Rita Knust and the father of her children, Everett Spencer, Jr.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Tony Hollowell will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church and Riley Hospital for Children.
