Helen Gunn

May 21, 1925 — October 4, 2024

Fulda, Indiana

Helen “Gramma” Gunn, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Gramma Gunn was born in Santa Claus, Indiana on May 21, 1925, to William and Katie (Hildenbrand) Collignon. She was the youngest of four children.

She proudly attended Weaver Grade School and graduated in the class of 1943 from Dale High School. After graduation she took a job at Ken-Rad in Tell City, helping to manufacture radio tubes for the war effort. Later she moved to California with a friend to work at Western Union, later returning home when her mother became ill.

On November 6, 1951, Helen married Carl Gunn in the St. Paul Catholic Church rectory. They were married 66 years before he passed in 2018. During this time, they became parents to five children.

Carl and Gramma Gunn liked to travel and introduced their children to camping at a young age. At one point they camped with two children in cloth, non-disposable diapers! In their later years, they enjoyed trips to Switzerland, The Neverlands, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

Gramma Gunn was always up for an adventure. She loved to parasail during the summer weeks spent at Holden Beach, Noth Carolina. Her last outing under a parasail was when she was 90 years old.

During her quieter times Gramma Gun liked to crochet, read, work Seek-a-Word puzzles and play her Gameboy. Many people were the recipients of her beautiful handiwork of bedspreads and anything else she enjoyed making.

For more than 20 years she shared her love for reading by spending Wednesdays at Nancy Hanks Grade School, reading and sharing life lessons and virtues with the students.

Gramma Gunn is survived by her children, Susan Gunn of Brownsburg, Polly Ann (Maurice) Hagedorn, of Fulda, Mary Ellen (John) Moore, of Avon, Kris Gunn, of Fulda and Tom Gunn, of Santa Claus; three grandchildren, Nathan (Lindsey) Hagedorn, of Fulda, Stacy (Jared) Feltner, of Santa Claus and Sydney Gunn, of Newburgh. Her legacy is further carried by four great-grandchildren, Parker and Tanner Feltner and Ashtyn and Carson Hagedorn.

Gramma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl and siblings, Eleanor Collignon Pryde, Carl Collignon and Rudolph “Pete” Collignon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM CST at St. Boniface Parish, Fulda with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Father Anthony Vinson, OSB will officiate.

Visitation will on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 PM CST at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and on Monday from 9:00-10:00 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Gramma, the family respectively requests that you give a book to a child and or donate a book to Nancy Hanks Grade School or donations would also be appreciated to Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
