Tell City, Indiana Hazel K. Burdette, 96, passed away January 26, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Centerville, Tennessee on April 15, 1921 to the late Jacob and Lilly (Lindsey) Austin. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ivan Burdette; sisters, Wilma Chandler, Mary Pace, Bessie and Birdie Austin; brothers, Howard, Jim, Erby and Floyd Austin. Hazel retired from General Electric and later volunteered at Lincoln Hills Development Corp. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. In her younger years Hazel played guitar and sang in a musical group known as Faye's Follies, where they entertained locally and performed at the State Fair. She enjoyed playing euchre, quilting and crocheting, gardening and she was known to have made the world's best fudge. Her great joy was hosting family gatherings and hosting sleepovers with the grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Jean M. Floyd, Jerry George (Marina) and Gary George, all of Tell City; a sister, Billie Jean Suiter, Centerville, TN; ten grandchildren, Jeff Cronin (Stacy), Jason Cronin (Letisha), Julie Collins, Jeremy Wheeler (Leanne), Nathan George, Margeri George, Jessica Kline (Chris), Vanessa Dedrick (Brad), Steven George and Lisa George (Bill Dodson); 22 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-6:00 PM, with a D of I service at 5:00 PM and Monday8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
