Grant L. Taylor

November 11, 1949 — August 17, 2024

Tell City, Indiana -

Grant L. Taylor, 74, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was surrounded by his three children, other family members and his favorite caretaker, Courtney, at Primrose Retirement Community of Newburgh.

Grant was born in Tell City on November 11, 1949, the oldest son of Ralph J. and Frieda M. “Fritz” (LeMaire) Taylor. He was a 1968 graduate of Tell City High School, and a graduate of Lockyear Business College and Brescia College.

He was a member of Indiana National Guard from 1972-78 and a former member of American Legion Post #213.

Grant began his professional career in banking at Regional Federal Savings and Loan, First State Bank, Integra, People’s Bank and Trust

and retired from German American Bank.

He was always civic minded and had served on many community boards and committees including Perry County Memorial Hospital Board, Perry County Sheriff Merit Board, Raintree Council, Easter Seals, Lincolnland Economic Development, Perry County Chamber of Commerce, Spencer County Chamber of Commerce and Tell City Kiwanis. He was a former councilman for the City of Tell City and was a former member of Tell City Optimist Club and Tell City Kiwanis.

Grant was a life member of Tell City Moose Lodge and was a former member of South Spencer Kiwanis and Spencer County Chamber of Commerce when he worked in Rockport.

Grant enjoyed spending his free time on the Ohio River, where he had a passion for water skiing. During that time, he was a member of Lincoln Hills Ski School near Rocky Point and had a reputation for being a gifted trick skier and barefoot skier. He participated in many “Superfoot” competitions which were attracted by boaters and river enthusiasts alike.

Grant also loved to play golf, throw darts, play euchre, pitch horseshoes, shoot pool, ride motorcycles, drive his 1963 Corvette and spend time with friends and family.

Grant is survived by his children Vicki (Eric) Freeman, Bryan (Stephanie) Taylor and Eric (Jessie) Alvey; grandchildren; Bryn, Josie and Sebastian Freeman, Bryleigh and Thompson Taylor, Alivia and Eric “Frankie”, Jr. Alvey.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and “Fritz” Taylor and his brother, Bryan Taylor.

Grant leaves behind a loving family of children, grandchildren, cousins and extended family that were never very extended. We are sad but have a sense of relief knowing that he no longer must live with dementia. He was alive the last couple of years but not “living”. His family would like to thank the endless number of people who stepped up and helped us care for him. Sometimes it was making a meal, stopping by to say hello and staying with him for a week or more. He never had to know what it was like not to have a big loving family there for him. And to his friends who would go visit and bring him a Miller High Life, you are amazing, kind, loving people who will never be forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Rev. Tony Hollowell officiating, with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Grant’s visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions being made to Bryan Taylor Memorial Fund, located at German American Bank. Envelopes will also be available at Huber Funeral Home.

Condolences may be left for his family at www.huberfuneralhome.net
