Gladys Gilbert

Cannelton, Indiana –

Gladys L. Gilbert, 92, passed away on December 31, 2023, at Oakwood Health Campus.

She was born in Tell City on April 19, 1931, daughter of Soloman and Rosie (Thompson) Mathena.

Gladys retired from William Tell Woodcrafters where she had worked for 26 years. She had also worked at Hydro-Tex (formerly in Cannelton) and Tell City Chair Company. After her retirement, she worked in maintenance at Tell City National Bank for over 16 years.

She was a former member of V.F.W. #2939 Auxiliary, and she enjoyed flower gardening and watching television. Gladys was especially proud of being a family with five generations to call her own.

Surviving her is a daughter, Joyce Stillwell; granddaughter, Julie Coin (Chad Taul); great grandchildren, Brandon, Joey, Keishia and Destinee; great-great grandchildren, Jaxon, Evelyn and Wyatt; brother, Harold Mathena and nephew, Dennis Mathena (Amy).

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Cecil (1964), grandson, Billy Joe Stilwell and nephew, Hal Mathena.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CST on January 4, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in New Cliff Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time on Thursday.
