Gerald Lagrange

St. Croix, Indiana Gerald B. LaGrange, 86, formerly of St. Croix, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Cypress Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Indiana. Gerald was born in Apalona, Indiana on August 26, 1922, son of the late Oscar LaGrange and Bertha Doogs LaGrange. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brooke Flamion, five brothers, Edward, Everett, Kermit and Mark LaGrange and a brother in infancy. Gerald was a 1941 graduate of Oil Township High School then entered the U.S. Army after graduation. While serving during WW II, he participated in the invasion of North Africa and Sicily. He was on Normandy Beach on D-Day. Gerald received a Purple Heart medal for wounds suffered in St. Lo, France. He was a member of the St. Meinrad American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939. Gerald was united in marriage at Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Croix on June 25, 1946 to the former Phyllis Donnelly who survives. The couple lived in the St. Croix area for fifty-four years, where they are members of Holy Cross Church. In 2000 they moved to Dale, Indiana where they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He retired in 1982 from General Electric in Tell City, Indiana where he had worked as an electrician for thirty-three years. Gerald loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, cards and sports, especially Cardinal baseball. Gerald is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Four sons, Allen LaGrange, Tell City, Indiana Rick LaGrange, Tell City, Indiana Clifford LaGrange, Leopold, Indiana Roger LaGrange, Los Angeles, California Two daughters, Patricia Flamion, Holland, Indiana Angie Ayer, Dale, Indiana One brother, Clyde LaGrange, Jasper, Indiana 13 Grandchildren 18 Great Grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM CDT Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, St. Croix, Indiana with burial in the church cemetery. The St. Meinrad American Legion will conduct military graveside rites. Rev. Guy Mancini OSB and Rev. John Brosemer will officiate. Visitation is from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Monday and 8:30 - 9:30 AM Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City, Indiana. In memory of his granddaughter, Brooke Flamion, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
