Tell City, Indiana Gayle A. Strassell, 72, passed away on February 25, 2015, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. She was born on August 25, 1942. Her parents were the late Marion L. and Mary A. (Holtzman) Kroessman. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Tom Strassell; a sister, Carole Sanders, and a companion, John Balser, Sr. A 1960 graduate of Tell City High School, Gayle was a certified insurance counselor and attended Ivy Technical Institute for accounting. She then started a lifetime career of volunteering and working for the betterment of Tell City. From 1969-1974, she served as office manager of Perry County License Branch. Gayle spent the next twenty years serving as secretary and controller of Fischer Chair Company. In 1991, she became the manager of Kennedy Insurance Agency, which was a subsidiary of Tell City National Bank. Later, she was manager of Fifth Third Bank, at Santa Claus and Tell City branches. Gayle served the City of Tell City on its Common Council and most recently as Mayor from 2004-2007. After retirement, she enjoyed a part time job with Everbody's Fun & Fitness Center. Gayle's parents and grandparents instilled in her the love and responsibility of helping others in church and community. Gayle had many memberships over the years, including Tell City Kiwanis Club, Tell City Historical Society, Perry County Chamber of Commerce, Perry County League of Women Voters (treasurer), Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Leadership Perry County (president), Schweizer Fest Committee, Santa Claus Optimist Club, Santa Claus Chamber of Commerce, Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, We The Youth of Perry County Board, Women of the Moose and United Way of Perry County. Gayle had been awarded the Perry County Distinguished Woman of the Year, TCNB Community Service Award and Tell City Distinguished Citizen of the Year. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ where she had served on the church council. Gayle enjoyed traveling, her kittens, spending time with her grandchildren and meeting people through her work and volunteer efforts. Surviving are her children, Julie Hauser (Jake), Tell City, Greg Strassell (Meredith), Quincy, Massachusetts and Gary Strassell (Laura), Maineville, Ohio; a sister, Peg Cardinal, Conway, South Carolina and grandchildren, Andy and Ben Hauser, Brandon and Zoe Strassell and Michael, Erin and William Strassell. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Evangelical United Church of Christ, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. JT Hills will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Saturday and from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM on Sunday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
