Fred Gray

Tell City, IN Fred E. Gray, 88, passed away on December 11, 2020 at Columbia Health Care in Evansville. He was born in Winton, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1932, son of the late Ernest and Mae (Williams) Gray. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Bessie (Johnson) Gray in 2000; step sons, Curtis and Earl Vandgrift; a sister, Evelyn Wensel and brothers, Bill, Richard and Bruce Gray. Fred retired from Pinkerton Tobacco Company (Owensboro, KY) and was a member of Lily Dale Church of Christ when he lived in Tell City. Fred enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, fishing and singing at local nursing homes. He never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially Galen Futtrell. Surviving are his step children, Mildred Whitehead, Elberfeld, Juanita Umphries, Evansville, Hazel Finley, Terre Haute, Jewell Patterson, Cloverport, KY, Linda Bryant, Rome, Arlene McMahan, Cannelton, Barbara Zoerner, Lido, Wisconsin, John Vandgrift, Derby and Herman Vandgrift, Waldo, FL; a half brother, Theodore "Ted" Rearick, Owensboro, KY and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Riverwalk Communities and Columbia Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave Fred over the years. Burial will be in Hensley Cemetery, Garfield, Kentucky with no public services. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
