Floretta (Schraner) Beatty, 87, passed away on March 22, 2025, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
Floretta was born in Gerald, Indiana, on December 7, 1937, daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl (Thomas) Schraner. She was a 1956 graduate of Cannelton High School. She married Larry Beatty on September 14, 1957.
Upon marriage, Floretta and Larry moved to North Carolina, where Larry served in the U S Army. Their first child, Marcia, was born while they lived in North Carolina. Upon leaving the Army, the family moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where Larry attended Indiana University while Floretta worked at the Bloomington Hospital. Their second daughter, Darla, was born while they lived in Bloomington. The family then returned to Tell City in 1967.
In her early years, Floretta worked at PN Hirsch. She then went to work for the Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation, where she worked as an aide at Franklin School then as the athletic director’s assistant at Tell City High School. She retired in 2000. She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren, and her dog, Ben. As a long-time member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, she spent many hours volunteering at church and made many of the banners which adorn the church’s sanctuary. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting.
Surviving is her daughter Darla Goffinet (Chris); her grandchildren, Lauren Goffinet (Kim), Sarah Goffinet-Elpers (Adam), Reed Goffinet (Kori Matney), and Dylan, Conor, and Colin Barth; great-granddaughters Blake and Tatum Goffinet; and son-in-law Bill Barth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry, in 2020, and her daughter, Marcia, in 2013, along with her sisters Anna Mae Seibert, Minnie Marie Cronin, and Bernice O’Neil Bouillion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 3 pm until 7 pm at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Kyle Reaka will end the visitation with a final blessing at 7:00 pm. A private burial will take place later at Schraner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ’s Local Emergencies Fund.
