"Ferdie" Boeckman

Uniontown, Indiana –

Ferdinand W. “Ferdie” Boeckman, 75, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Dubois County on June 8, 1948, son of William Ferdinand “Bill” and Theresa (Oster) Boeckman.

A 1966 graduate of Ferdinand High School, Ferdie was an accomplished carpenter, an award-winning winemaker and wildlife processor.

He enjoyed his work as a security guard at St. Meinrad Archabbey and Monestary Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. More recently, he worked as a groundskeeper at Winzerwald Winery. Ferdie was known as a guardian for his neighborhood, always keeping an eye out or lending a hand to a friend in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Ferdie is survived by his wife, Virginia (Poehlein) Boeckman; stepson, Nathan Poehlein; “adopted” daughter, Leslie Gootee (Jason Quesades); grandchildren, Alexander Poehlein (Allie) and Gabrielle Poehlein; a great granddaughter and numerous cousins.

A Celebration of Ferdie’s Life will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation or services at this time. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, is assisting his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Perry County Humane Society or River’s Edge Animal Shelter.
