Eugene Lowe

Tell City, Indiana Eugene W. "Gene" Lowe, 86, passed away January 29, 2014, at his home. He was born in West Terre Haute, Indiana, on October 23, 1927. His parents were the late Walter and Bessie (Dillion) Lowe. Also preceding him in death was his wife Marianna (Hodgers) Lowe, December 18, 1999. Gene was a 1945 graduate of West Terre Haute High School and a graduate Indiana State Teacher's College in Terre Haute. He was a United States Navy veteran. He had been manager of the swimming pool for the City of Tell City when it was located where the William Tell Senior Citizens Center is currently located. In 1990, Gene retired as a guidance counselor for Tell City- Troy Township School Corporation where he taught for 40 years. He had also taught commerce, business math and drivers education. Gene was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and enjoyed raising livestock, tending to his blueberries, yard work, gardening and housing purple martins. He is survived by his daughter Joyce Wagner and her husband, Larry, Tell City; a son, Ralph Lowe and his wife Denise, New Harmony; sister, Audrey Hodgers, West Terre Haute, four grandchildren, Carrie Wagner (Will Applegate), Amy Lesniewski (Scott), Jeremy Lowe (Adrianne), Meghan Trevino (Jose'); four great grandchildren, Joshua, Josie and Jakob Lesniewski and Eli Trevino. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 3, 2014 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until service time. Pastor J.T. Hills will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or Evangelical United Church of Christ.
