Elsie Houghland

Tell City, Indiana Elsie M. Houghland, 102, passed away on May 6, 2023 at Brickyard Healthcare, Lincoln Hills. She was born in Tell City on October 6, 1920 to Charles Fredrick and Lurena (Pyle) McMahan. Elsie was united in marriage to Charles Houghland, Sr. on October 16, 1948 at the Methodist Parsonage in Tell City. They shared 62 years together. She retired in 1985 from Tell City Chair Company after 20 years. Elsie enjoyed family gatherings and you could always expect her to bring cherry cheesecake. She took pride in watching her grandchildren playing in their sporting events. She is survived by her children, Linda Rogier (Tim), Charles Houghland, Jr. (Mary) and Karl Houghland (Kay), all of Tell City; daughter-in-law, Judy Houghland, Fulda; grandchildren, Kelly Davis (Gary), Tell City, Kasey Gaynor (Gordon), Hawesville, KY, Chaz Houghland, Tell City, Courtney Lathrop (Keith), Indianapolis, Katie Houghland (Anderson O'Bryan), Owensboro, KY, Brady Houghland (Brittany), Dayton, OH and Lydia Houghland (Landon Baker) Utica, KY and great grandchildren, Maggie and Shelby, Gracie and Grant, Madison and Charlee, Kyla and Caeden, Grayson and Ellie, Elsie, Wayde and Waylon. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charles Houghland, Sr. in 2010; a son, Steve Houghland; grandson, Jarrod Houghland; sister, Anna Turner; a brother, Albert McMahan and a niece and nephew who she helped raised, Agnes Bolin and Roy Turner. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
