Tell City, Indiana Eldon Kenneth "Kenny" Smith, 72, passed away at Ascension St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis on February 17, 2022. He was born in Evansville on January 24, 1950 to Edward and Ruby (Hedricks) Smith of Newtonville, Indiana. Kenny graduated from Chrisney High School in 1967 and went on to serve the United States Army in Vietnam, and later earned an Associates degree in Business. He retired after more than 40 years as a truck driver. After retirement, he enjoyed going to auctions, running Pop's Shop out of his garage in Tell City, being a vendor at various flea markets and fests throughout Indiana and Kentucky. He was united with his soul mate of 50 years, Brenda J. (Brooks) Smith, on June 1, 1971. They together raised three children, fostered over 20 children with special needs, volunteered with Special Olympic, coached kid's baseball, softball, and basketball, showing Harlequin rabbits on the national level, breaking, training, and riding horses, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Hoosier basketball. His greatest joy was his family. He was a source of strength and comfort to them all. He loved and went out of his way to help any child in need. There is nothing he wouldn't do for the people he loved. He is survived by his wife Brenda of Tell City; children, David Smith (Stephanie), Frankfort, Ohio, Samantha Smith, Tell City, and Jami Arndt (Nate), Evanston; grandchildren, Cora Edge (Wes), Alex Alcantara, Jessica Himes (Tyler), Quentin "Boone" Smith- May, Jarrica Brittain (Nathan), Brittany "Angel" Byrley, Lukas Arndt, and Skylar Arndt; seven great grandchildren; sister, Mona Howell, Ferdinand and brother Jim Smith, Albuquerque, New Mexico and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceding in death by both parents; a brother, Sheldon Smith and sisters, Nellie Bickel and Lavern Smith. In lieu of services the family would ask you to pay him tribute by listening to his "theme" song, "It's Hard to be Humble" by Mac Davis. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor with a children's charity of your choosing.
