Tell City, Indiana - Ed "Sonny" Kress, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at his home. He was born March 9, 1933, in Tell City, son of the late Martin Kress and Marie (Wheatley) Kress Stephens. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Dena Kress and step-father, Orville Stephens. A graduate of Tell City High School, Ed retired from the United States Army and later from General Electric, in 1991, after 25 years of service. Ed was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, being a basketball referee and in his younger years, liked to roller skate. Ed is survived by his wife, Kathy L. Kress; daughter, Kena Kress, Tell City; sons, Kevin Kress (Lois), Tell City and Kip Kress (Naomi), West Jordan, Utah; step-daughters, Stephanie Girten (Jimmy), Morganfield, Kentucky and Renae Smith, Newburgh; sister, Patricia Jones, Evansville; five grandchildren, Matthew, Wesley, Derrick and Sara Kress and Nikita Taul; four step-grandchildren, Justin, Josh, Damien and Drake and four great grandchildren, Abel, Hryum, Abraham and Mercy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Saturday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or American Heart Association.
