Earl Matheny

Cannelton, Indiana - Earl R. Matheny, 91, passed away on January 6, 2023. He was born in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky on November 30, 1931. Earl married Barbara Ann Cunningham on December 9, 1950, in Greenville, Kentucky. He retired as a coal miner and was a proud member of IUOE #181. Earl was a deacon, for several years, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bremen, Kentucky. He was a Shriner and a 60-year Mason in the 32nd degree. Earl enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting guns, collecting coins and tinkering with small engine repair. He always looked forward to time spent with his family. Surviving him are his children, Benita Haley (Larry), Island, Kentucky and Stacy Matheny, Cannelton; six grandchildren, Michelle Miller, Vanessa Gibson (Rodney), Jason Gaynor (Ileana), Neil Matheny, Calyssa Harpenau (Zachary) and Autumn Critcheloe; 13 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Earl also has nieces and nephews surviving him. Preceding him in death was his wife, Barbara Ann (Cunningham) Matheny; his father, Rollie Matheny, mother and stepfather, Grace and Raymond Dossett; son, Keith Matheny; brother, Carl Matheny and grandchildren, Brandy Susan Matheny and Bryan Keith Matheny. Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM CDT on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with visitation from 12:00 PM until 2:30 PM where there will be a Masonic service conducted by Central City Masonic Lodge #673. Burial will be later in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bremen, Kentucky. Memorial contributions may be made to Central City Masonic Lodge #673.
