E. Thelma Adkins, 94, of Cannelton, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at Eagle Creek Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis. Thelma was born in Lewisport, Kentucky on June 30, 1916, daughter of the late Estil and Ophelia Roberts Cambron. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Adkins in 1985; her sisters, Edna Coleman, Lillian Lively and Louise Estes; her brother, Iva Cambron. A lifelong homemaker, Thelma had been an employee of General Electric for five years. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, especially tending her roses. She enjoyed caring for her dog, Zora and corresponding with family and friends through her letters. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Wene and her husband, Ron of Sale Creek, Tennessee; Sharon Alvey and her husband, Ronnie, Indianapolis, Indiana; one son, Joe Adkins and his wife, Violet, Tell City, Indiana. She has eight grandchildren, Pam, Nathan and Kristi Alvey; Tim and Clayton Wene; Cindy Herrmann; Bob and Ronnie Adkins. There are 12 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Huber Funeral Home, 129 N. 6th Street, Cannelton, Indiana with burial in Utility Cemetery, Hancock County, Kentucky. Pastor William VanNunen will officiate. Visitation is from 2:00 until 8:00 PM Friday and 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
