Tell City, Indiana - Dorothy Pekinpaugh, 94, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day in Cannelton, at the home of her daughter. Dorothy was born on September 11, 1922 to the late Wilbur and Nancy (Cooper) Shadwick. Also preceding her in death is her first husband, Cecil Alvey, in 1968, second husband, Shirley ‘Peck" Pekinpaugh, in 2001, and her granddaughter, Jill James Johnson, in 2015, and a brother, Junior Shadwick. Dorothy retired from the Ohio Valley Gas Company. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. Dorothy was an avid Scrabble player and bowled on many leagues. She loved to cross-stitch and crochet and spent many hours creating beautiful projects for her family, weaving love into every stitch. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who doted on all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Jolane (Alvey) Biever (William) of Roxboro, NC, Jan (Alvey) James (Norman) of Cannelton, and son, Jim Alvey; grandchildren, Carrie Howard, Roxboro, NC; Chad Alvey, Greenwood, IN; Rick Biever, Roxboro, NC; and Brandon James, Evansville; six great-grandchildren and sisters, Jerry Voekler, Gainesville, FL and Betty Stein, Lakeland, FL. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sara, Shawna and Ashley with Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care they gave to Dorothy. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM CST Monday, November 28, 2015 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Paul Alvey will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots or the Perry County Animal Shelter.
