Dorothy James

November 10, 1924 — April 7, 2024

Leopold, Indiana

Dorothy M. James, 99, formerly of Perry County, passed away on April 7, 2024, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Dorothy had lived in Louisville for several years after her husband, Lloyd, passed away.

She was born in Buffalo, New York on November 10, 1924, daughter of Thaddeus and Valeria (Krawczyk) Jaworski. She met her husband during WWII and moved with him and their two children to Perry County in 1959. She was quick to make friends and thought of Perry County as her home.

Dorothy retired in 1994 from Bacon’s Department Store in Louisville. While she lived in Perry County, she was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and had worked at Dauby’s Department Store and GE.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family above all else and had a huge part in the upbringing of her four beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are her two children, Gary James and wife, Debbie, and Karen Barnhart and husband, Doug, all of Louisville; grandchildren, Holly Barger (Brian), Andrew Kent, Jessica Grego (Mike) and Evan James (Morgan) and great grandchildren, Charlie and George Barger, and Arthur and Mary Grego. She was also the beloved aunt to several nephews and nieces in the Buffalo, NY area, who will miss her vibrant spirit and caring heart very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Lloyd, in 1985 and her nine siblings, Vi, Rose, Rita, Mary, Walter, Joe, Matt, Mike and Sam.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Augustine Church Cemetery. Father Brian Esarey will officiate.
