Dennis J James

HAMMOND, IN – 

Dennis J. James, 72, died at 9:18 pm Friday, January 17, 2025, at Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary. 

A native of Chicago, he was born on April 27, 1952, the son of Robert W. and Lorraine M. (Hauber) James. His parents moved to Sulphur and Tell City after Robert W. retired. After parents passed, Dennis lived in Jasper IN and worked at Grandy’s. Dennis moved to Albertine Home in Hammond his last 11 years to be closer to his sisters. 

He was a 1970 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. He went to college for two years, majoring in electronics. 

Surviving him is a brother, Patrick Michael James of Salem; three sisters, Mary Ellen Richards and Deborah Ann Maus of Chicago Heights IL and Susan Catherine Toppel of Highland; four nephews, Scott Richards, Ronald Toppel Jr, Brian Toppel, David Maus; a niece, Lisa Richards and three great-nephews, Stephen Zarnay Jr, Joshua Richards, and Lucas Toppel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert Jr and Paul James. 

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM CST on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in St Croix.
