Charlie Moore, Jr.

October 1, 1935 — January 22, 2023

Cannelton, Indiana Charlie R. Moore, Jr., 87, passed away on January 22, 2023 at Brickyard Healthcare in Tell City. He was born in Chicopee, Georgia on October 1, 1935 to Charlie R. and Martha (Mann) Moore. Charlie moved to Cannelton at the age of nine. After graduating from Cannelton High School in 1953, where he was involved in the choir and football, he attended Butler University in Indianapolis. Two years later, Charlie returned home to marry the love of his life, Jeannine Huber. A self-professed "jack of all trades", early on, he did some teaching in Hancock County and had managed Bedford Nugent Sand and Gravel in Henderson, Kentucky. Charlie wanted his young family to have a valuable upbringing , so he moved the family back to his beloved Cannelton, where he became an active member in the community. He became heavily involved in the Jaycees, working to keep the Cannorama returning year after year, helped in the development of Can-Do Apartments and was a lector at St. Michael Catholic Church. Charlie was also politically active and also had served as the Troy Township Assessor. Charlie loved to sing and often sang at housewarmings and events like the dedication of the Lincoln Trail Memorial Bridge, the first linking of Cannelton to Hawesville, Kentucky. He and Jeannine owned and operated Ellee Vault Company, and later buying "Pie's Place" which became "Moore's Tavern". In 1990, the family moved to Florida where Charlie and Jeannine managed a series of hotels. Lastly, he looked forward to going to work as a Walmart greeter, giving him a reason to talk with everyone he met. It provided him the flexibility to move to several different places before returning, as always, to Cannelton. Surviving are his children, Greg Moore (Julie), St. Petersburg, FL, D. Todd Moore (Mary), Indianapolis and Lori Sandonato (Bill), Alto Boquete, Chiriqui, Panama; grandchildren, Cameron (Whitney) Moore, Alec Armbruster, Janelle Moore, Kimberly and Kellie Moore and Megan Stover (Dustin); great grandchildren, Kylie, Mason, Aiden and Abigail Moore, Julia and Lauren Stover. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife and sisters, Edna Murrell, Geraldine Owensby and Sarah Kendall. A devoted husband and papa, he will be missed by so many. His contributions to the community he loved will continue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM CST on Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
