Charles Sweat

Rockport, Indiana Charles L. Sweat, 87, passed away June 5, 2017. He was born in Spencer County, October 6, 1929, son of the late Martin and Mary Della (James) Sweat. Also preceding him in death was a brother, John Sweat and a sister, Margaret Sparks. Charles was a 1947 graduate of Rockport High School. A Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, he was a participant in the Berlin Airlift and was awarded the medal for Humane Action. He was united in marriage to the former Marie Leister on September 20, 1951. Charles retired from Whirlpool and was a lifelong farmer. Charles was a member of American Legion Post #213 and a lifetime member of VFW Post #1114. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie; son, Ken Sweat (Norma), Tell City and daughter, Karen, Evansville; four grandchildren, Adam Sweat (Lori), Kyle Sweat (Maria), Jennifer Karvundis (Niko) and Jay, and six great grandchildren, Carter, Dylan and Brantley Sweat and Bianca, Stella and Greta Karvundis. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Wednesday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel with burial in St. Augustine Cemetery, where there will be military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post #1139. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your local Animal Shelter.
