Charles J. "Chic" Leitner, 94, passed away on February 15, 2014, at Golden Living Center-Lincoln Hills. He was born in Long Beach, California, on July 28, 1919. His parents were the late Ralph Leitner and Mary V. (Kunz) Leitner. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Rita Leitner; half sister, Mary Emma (Paulin) Moore; half brother, Leo Paulin and brothers, Ralph and Art Leitner and his wife, Edith (Irvin) Leitner. After graduating from Cannelton High School in 1937, Charles started his military career in the United States Army, retiring in 1966. He served his country during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Charles was a member of American Legion Post #213 and Military Officers Association of America. He was an avid stamp collector. Surviving are his daughters, Dolores Leitner, Macon, Missouri and Mona Leitner, Tell City; a son, Dennis Leitner (Rose Mary), Tell City; a grandson, Derek Leitner, his wife Kip and their three sons, Evan, Landon and Grayson Leitner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February, 19, 2014, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with the American Legion Post #213 conducting military rites at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday and from 12:00 until 2:00 PM on Wednesday. Rev. J.T. Hills will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ or St. Michael Catholic Church.
