Dr. Charles Emil Flannagan, age 89, passed away at 4:00 AM Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the St. Charles Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana. He was born September 18, 1916 near St. Croix, Indiana, the fifth of eleven children of Martin J. and Delphine Bodart Flannagan. In 1938 he received a two year elementary teaching license from Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana and taught school in Perry County until 1941 when he joined the Air Force. Piloting a B-17 bomber on runs from England over Germany he completed thirty-one missions, achieving the rank of major. On November 21, 1944 he wed Dolores C. Ernst of Jasper, Indiana and began dental school at Indiana University the following fall. Graduating in 1950 he moved his young family to Tell City, to begin his dental practice that would span more than 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1172, American Legion Post #213, and the Indiana and American Dental Associations. He is survived by his wife Dolores, of Jasper, Indiana, and by six children: Maura Watson, Woodstock, GA, Dr. Michael Flannagan and his wife, Janice of Jasper, Dr. Duane Flannagan and his wife, Jane of Jasper, Coleen Flannagan Jacobsen and her husband Rick of Austin, Texas, Phil Flannagan and his wife, Cherie of Carmel, Indiana, and Dr. Mark Flannagan and his wife, Larky of Tell City, along with nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, one brother, Albert Flannagan, of St. Croix, Indiana and three sisters, Christine Hawkins of Tell City, Irene Flamion of Tell City, and Anne Ramsey of Newburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Martin Flannagan, and four sisters, Agnes Brickner, Florence Flannagan, Helen Beck, and Elnora Flannagan. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City with interment following in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tell City where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2939 and American Legion Post # 213 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Monday and from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel where there will be a Knights of Columbus prayer service at 6:30 PM Monday.
