Charles E. James, 87, passed away on July 2, 2024.
He was born on October 12, 1936, to William Arnold and Mabel (Curl) James.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage on October 3, 1970, to Gloria J. James.
He worked most of his life as a self-employed mechanic. In his younger years, Charles loved to camp with his family or friends who were also members of William Tell Campers. He and Gloria liked to travel whenever they were able, visiting friends in Florida and staying there throughout the winter months. Charles also looked forward to playing a good hand of euchre with his buddies.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Gloria James; children, Daren James and Faye Schneider; a sister, Janice James; brothers, Larry James and Jule James and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, sons, Charles W. James and Jerry Hinton, Jr. and siblings, Mary Button, Sharon James, Thomas, Eugene, Donald, Jerry, Cletus and Delbert James.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Luke Waugh will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Derby, where there will be military rites. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Derby.
