Tell City, Indiana - Catherine Kessens, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Oakwood Health Campus. She was born in Tell City on March 31, 1918. Her parents were the late John and Elizabeth (Olberding) Briggeman. Also preceding her in death were her brothers and sisters, Urban, Omer and William Briggeman, Adeline Kessans, Wilhelmenia Parker and Leola Bowman, a great grandchild and her husband, Norman G. Kessens. A Troy High School graduate, Catherine was a homemaker and was devoted to her faith. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Oblates of St. Benedict, Daughters of Isabella, Fennhaven Homemakers Club, Catholic Knights of America, director for S.P.R.E.D. Program, a Fourth Day member of Cursillo. Catherine enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, playing euchre and fishing. She was also a volunteer for Council of Agencies and RSVP volunteer. She is survived by her children, Sandra Borho and her husband, Norman, Tell City; Wayne Kessens and his wife, Valery, Santa Claus; Patricia Ward and her husband, Stephen, New Philadelphia, Ohio; Norman J. Kessens and his wife, Karen, Blue Springs, Missouri; Noel Kessens and his wife, Delores, Cannelton; Thomas Kessens and his wife, Sara, St. Henry. Catherine has nineteen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 6 step great granchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 19, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie O.S.B. will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. There will be a D.of I. prayer service at 6:30 PM on Sunday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, Vista Care Hospice or American Cancer Society.
